Final Fantasy XI Playdiary

Entry 13 - And yet more randomness, part 1

And yet again, I take a decent sized break in between updating. I have been playing in my free time, but haven't done anything of a large enough scale recently to dedicate a full journal to. So once again, it's a random sequence of pictures and text, spanning two pages today. Here we go.

Remember my failures at growing things before? I had been planning to grow some fruit, but this time a beautiful flower bloomed instead. Perhaps later in its life it would have produced some fruit too, but I was so excited I asked my moogle to preserve it for me as it was. The pink flowers give off a dull light and it's by far the most beautiful thing in my mog house right now.

After that small horticultural diversion, I headed all the way back to Sand'Oria. My plan was to ignore my monk and thief jobs for a while now and focus on becoming a mage. I have always had a weakness for mages and want to be able to walk around raising the dead and saving lives. I headed to the auction house to spend my humble gil on some spells and articles of clothing. I caught sight of this guy whilst I was there and was impressed by the enormous trident he was carrying (no, I am not just taking screenshots of every male I see in paladin armour, it's coincidence). It made my little hammer look quite pathetic.

The reason I had come to Sand'Oria was to meet some other members of the NeoGundan linkshell for a hunt. This is Einz, the leader of the group. I would end up hunting with him often in future - he is an excellent leader and very noble, always risking his life to save anyone in need if he can help in some way. He is also a Beast Tamer - a job I am not very familiar with. More than once he has saved us all by taming a monster that tried to surprise attack us. The second picture is me, this time in my white mage gear.

Fighting some strange creatures in the Ghelsba Outpost, lair of the orcish monsters. Someone not in our party was overwhelmed ahead of us, and ran for safety with a small army of orcs in pursuit. We were too weak to take them all on ourselves. When a group chases you like this, it is called a train. It can be very dangerous for other people as the enraged monsters might lose (or kill) their target and turn on any bystanders too.

The same core group of us hunted together almost daily, with occasional changes when people had to go. Here we are in La Theine plateau. It is almost always raining there.

An Air Elemental, like the one I met long ago in Tahrongi canyon. This time I walked right up to it and took a picture, as I now knew it would not attack me unless I used magic nearby. Later I saw a Water Elemental. I had seen a few of these earlier when hunting, and had been easily mutilated by them. I grabbed a picture of this one too. They are beautiful to look at despite their brutal tendancies. After another run-in with a Water Elemental with my party (I died, and so did one other), Saiyu popped by kindly to revive us. He is a high level white mage on the Neogundan linkshell - I hope that one day, I can be too ^^.

One day, there were too many people of our level wanting to party for one party, so instead of being logical and forming two, we invited everyone into an alliance of twelve people and stormed La Theine, easily killing everything in our path and earning next to no experience. It was unproductive, but fun to see so many of us working together. A few people started to leave and I became sleepy, so I was unable to see how it all turned out in the end. The next day, I had nothing much to do and decided to start work on my assigned Mission from Windurst. I was getting bored of being rank two now and wanted to start my journey to earn an airship pass (rank five privilege).

Inside the Sand'Oria castle, which I know I shall spell incorrectly. Chateau d'Origille? It has a really fun Oubliette downstairs. Anyway, I was sent here by the staff at the Windurst embassy in Sand'Oria for Mission 6. Once there I was told I would have to kill an Orcish, the Warchief Vatgit for them. It died so quickly to me that I have no pictures of him, only one of his strangely named accomplice.I was advised to head out to the town of Bastok next, so I grabbed a chocobo and did just that...
