Final Fantasy XI Playdiary

Entry 20 - Friends and mishaps

Parallel to my usual solo escapades, something exciting (for me) happened recently. A group of my dear friends in the 'real world' obtained FFXI for themselves during our Japan excursion and started to play (some still haven't installed it yet, wahh). This is fun because I can pick on them and have more people to talk to than ever. This entry will be dedicated to stalking those people so if you want to see me dying in various creative ways again, you're out of luck. Maybe I can post some pictures of them dying instead to make up for it.

I created a small linkshell called Genki for the purposes of socialising with everyone. So now I'm a member of two. The Genki linkpearls are purple, a little easier on the eyes than RedLotus' hot pink perhaps.

First of all, Phoe. Tammui had started playing already by this point but that was during one of my frequent moments of having a full screenshot folder, so no pictures exist here of Tammui as a newbie. For which he is probably grateful. Anyway, Phoe's character is a cute small-sized mithra. Here are lots of pictures of Phoe in her underwear as she levels up as a monk. Since she's the only one using the US version of FFXI it's interesting to grill her about the translation at every opportunity and generally harrass her. I'll probably regret the latter when she's bigger and stronger than me. Phoe started in Windurst, the same city as Tammui comes from (not to mention Xylia). At some point we all decided it would become our temporary base.

Next to receive the dubious honour of starring in my playdiary are the Bastok members - Efaref and Kulgan. Kulgan is very, very big, and for that reason he eclipses Efaref's hume body quite effectively in most shots I took. For some reason everyone kept picking melee jobs so things will get interesting later on.

Phoe seemed to fit in very well and soon made friends with a tarutaru called Banggugyangu (I will never remember that name) who gives me a friendly wave from time to time. I popped by to stalk them both and found they were doing rather well and already working on their missions. After teasing Phoe for a while in my charming manner she went and bought a gi outfit and ruined my fun - I could no longer mock her lack of clothing as she was better dressed than I was. So cute though :)

With Efaref and Kulgan all the way in Bastok, Tammui and Phoe in Windurst and Zaiel alone in Sand'Oria, plans were made to meet up in Windurst. Talking over the linkshell channel is ok, but partying together would be more fun, ne? First of all I dragged Efaref and Kulgan through Gustaberg, Konshtat and Valkurm and escorted them onto the ferry. I don't know how they put up with being stuck with me for such a long time but they kept a brave face.

Once on board however, things went awry. Pirates attacked (lucky!) and Kulgan went up to watch. Which would normally be fine as I cast Sneak on him so they couldn't detect him. Unfortunately he got stuck on deck when it wore off and fell quickly to a swarm of the skeletons, hungry for galka blood. He managed to die right in the doorway. Efaref was hiding below deck safe and sound when one of the ship wights inexplicably took a hating to him and destroyed him with a single AeroIII. I'm still not sure how the wight found him - do humes smell that bad? Anyway, everyone was raised and we did eventually get to Windurst without further mishaps.

As I said, for me death and the ferry seem to go hand in hand.

Killing goblins is always fun. The guys gave me moral support from the sidelines :)

Finally most of the Genki gang was together. And Tammui makes his playdiary debut in these shots. Elusive little tarutaru.

My next task was to bring Zaiel over from Sand'Oria. Yes, it would have made more sense to do this at the same time as bringing the other two from Bastok. Oh well. Here's a morbid picture of a dead elvaan I found at the docks and raised. Suffice it to say that this time we made it to Windurst completely unscathed, despite yet another pirate attack. I play for a year with only two pirate adventures and then suddenly have three in the space of a week?

At this point I will hijack this entry to talk about a quest I finished. Since about level 30 I'd been working on the tailor goblin quest to obtain my set of race armour (RSE in game-talk). Which for mithra is a skimpy red version of their starting separates/loincloth set. I'm not usually a fan of skimpy clothing but they have very nice stat boosts. I'd had most of the set for some time but I finally found the final treasure chest key and finished the lot on my own. Please allow me to celebrate by revelling in my newfound matching clothing. The last picture is because at a similar time I also obtained the Telepo Varz spell and could teleport to Xarcabard and freeze to death. Which seemed a perfect opportunity to model my nice new underwear.

I also bought the spell Holy. I like Holy. Blowing up goblins is fun. I cannot for the life of me remember how on earth I afforded all of these things so close together.
